Frequently Asked Questions
What is the age range for children to attend?
We welcome enrolments from all preschool aged children (0-6) as we believe there are many benefits for children in socialising with older adults and engaging in music activities at all developmental ages and stages.
That said, our programs often include following actions and moving around the room or using equipment (i.e. scarves, instruments), so we encourage caregivers of younger attendees to adapt the activities to suit their child’s age and interests (i.e. carrying them around the room, modelling the actions for their child etc.). We don’t pretend to be a specialised baby or preschool music program – our emphasis is on making connections between the generations and enjoying one another’s company through music and movement.
What does a typical session look like?
Our sessions follow a consistent format that looks like this:
-
Welcome (Acknowledgement of country & BLB Welcome song)
-
Scarf or Ribbon waving songs
-
Storytime
-
‘On theme’ songs – usually simple action songs
-
Equipment time – bubbles, stickers, parachute, tapping sticks etc.
-
Play along – percussion instrument play along with the big buddies
-
Goodbye
Each session has a theme which runs for two weeks, for examples colours, farm animals, numbers, community helpers, seasons etc.

Can you start a program at a new centre?
We are certainly keen to expand and start new programs – that said, as a small charity, it’s usually a matter of grant/funding availability.
